Live
In my role at Live as Head of Product Design I work at the intersection of mapping, engineering, data science, design and community content.
I worked hand-in-hand with the CTO, CPO and Founders, and was responsible for hiring, managing, growing and building the product design function. In the end the team scaled to several product designers, UX researchers, a design ops manager and various content & design consultants brought in for special projects.
Stretching far beyond the data captured by Google Maps—more focused on directional data for vehicles —and Yelp built to serve information about businesses and their services, Live was an expansive index of every place and space with unprecedented precision and superlative scope.
Major milestones in my tenor at Live included:
- Leading the the team to build an expansive design system to facilitate better agile development and ultimately rapid growth across, web, mobile and native iOS & Android applications.
-Lead extensive design workshops in collaboration with engineers and data scientists to improve our search and filtering capabilities on the map interface. Here we condensed the tag library, simplifying the overall data structure which lead to a way smoother user experience for mappers, and for our map users with different intents — discovery users vs. specific search type tasks.
-Implemented tighter product, design and engineering sprints (going from ideation to validation to implementation and then ultimately, iteration) where the whole Live team operated in an agile function and could then deliver faster development cycles for our various products.
- In the end this helped the biz dev founding team to secure contracts to license our map data and platforms to the city of New York tourism bureau becoming “the official map of NYC”, to the New York City subway system (the MTA) and to several big players real-estate.
Live’s mission was to build the world’s first real-time, a ground-truth map of every space, place and event in every major US city . Check out the app, Live on the apple App Store.
